Strengthening Business–Government Action: IBCSD and Business for Nature join forces to advance Indonesia’s Nature-Positive journey through KIRANAS co-creation

Jakarta, January 2026 – Since May 2025, the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) and Business for Nature, a coalition of more than 100 influential partner organizations, have been working together to strengthen collaboration between business and government as Indonesia advances its journey towards a nature-positive economy.
Building on this ongoing work, the partnership aims to support the government in developing the frameworks and policies needed to enable effective business action that contributes to Indonesia’s biodiversity targets and global goals.
This partnership is part of Business for Nature’s national projects initiative, which works country by country to bridge the gap between global ambition and national reality. This work is part of an international effort to champion business-government collaboration for nature, support governments to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and build nature-positive, resilient economies.

As part of this collaboration, IBCSD convened a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Indonesia’s Biodiversity and Business Action Plan (KIRANAS) on 20 January 2026 in Jakarta. The FGD marked a critical milestone in the co-creation process of KIRANAS—Indonesia’s Business Action Plan for Biodiversity—by gathering structured input from businesses across priority sectors to test, refine, and validate the draft roadmap from an implementation and investment perspective.

KIRANAS is a business-led implementation roadmap that translates national biodiversity commitments into concrete, investment-ready, and measurable corporate actions. The draft is developed by the private sector with inputs from government policymakers, ensuring alignment with national policy directions.

“The KIRANAS Focus Group Discussion is a critical step in translating Indonesia’s biodiversity commitments into concrete, business-ready actions,” said Indah Budiani, Executive Director of IBCSD. “Through this partnership with Business for Nature, we are creating a structured pathway for businesses to move beyond pledges, by aligning corporate strategies, investment decisions, and operational practices with national biodiversity priorities and global frameworks,” said Indah.

“This cross-sector FGD provided a very rich discussion forum, where we saw that although various industries have similar business governance models, each sector faces a different level of urgency in implementing biodiversity. Turning Global Goals into National Action

In 2022, 196 countries made a historic commitment through the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) – a global plan to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. Governments cannot achieve this alone. Businesses and financial institutions must play a central role in delivering the transition toward a nature-positive future.

Through this partnership, the organizations are working to:

• Bring together leading companies and government representatives through the Indonesia Business and Biodiversity Platform (IBBP). Facilitated by IBCSD, IBBP serves as a collaborative platform for the private sector, investors, and policymakers to accelerate action towards a nature-positive economy. Since the start of the project, the IBBP has convened structured dialogues and technical discussions to address barriers and enablers for scaling business action on nature.
• Develop KIRANAS, Indonesia’s Business Action Plan for Biodiversity, which sets out clear and practical directions for how businesses can contribute to national biodiversity and climate goals.
• Build awareness and shared understanding across key sectors through consultations, workshops, and dialogue processes, including the KIRANAS Focus Group Discussion.

These efforts will align with ongoing national work led by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and Ministry of Environment, supporting the implementation of Indonesia’s biodiversity and climate commitments by ensuring that ecosystems such as forests, water, and soils are better reflected in decision-making.

Connecting National Progress to Global Ambition

This initiative supports Indonesia’s efforts to translate global biodiversity commitments into concrete national action, in line with the implementation of the Indonesia Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IBSAP) 2025–2045. IBSAP 2025–2045 serves as a key national reference for strengthening biodiversity governance at the national, subnational, and global levels—through the enhancement of policy instruments, environmental diplomacy, cross-sector coordination, capacity building, and cooperation among stakeholders.

As part of this broader effort, IBCSD convened the KIRANAS Focus Group Discussion, bringing together businesses and key stakeholders to discuss how the private sector can support national biodiversity priorities. The discussion contributed to ongoing business–government dialogue, helping to align perspectives and strengthen collaboration in advancing Indonesia’s biodiversity agenda.

The partnership also builds on global momentum following COP in Belém, Brazil, where the integration of climate and nature action was reinforced at the international level. By strengthening collaboration at the national level, this initiative helps connect global commitments with practical action on the ground in Indonesia.
