Green Talks Podcast: Turning Waste into Fuel for Cement? Here’s How RDF Works

As part of a collaboration between IBCSD and Katadata Green, this episode of Green Talks explores the role of the private sector in advancing waste management solutions that contribute to emissions reduction. Featuring Budi Yuliadi Nugraha, Head of the AFR Division, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, the discussion highlights how waste-to-energy approaches—particularly Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF)—are being implemented across regions in Indonesia.

The conversation unpacks the end-to-end waste management value chain, the importance of collaboration between local governments and industry, and the technical, economic, and social challenges in scaling these solutions. RDF is positioned as a viable pathway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while partially substituting fossil fuels in industrial processes.

Through this episode, IBCSD aim to reinforce that waste management is not only an environmental issue, but also a critical component of decarbonization efforts and the transition toward a circular economy.
