Developed by the Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD), this guideline is an Indonesian adaptation of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)’s Guidelines for an Integrated Energy Strategy, contextualized to reflect Indonesia’s policy landscape, regulatory framework, and business environment. The guideline provides a practical roadmap for companies to accelerate decarbonization by integrating energy efficiency and low-carbon energy sourcing into their business strategies.
Designed for businesses across sectors, the guideline introduces an integrated energy approach that goes beyond operational efficiency, encouraging companies to consider their entire energy value chain, engage internal and external stakeholders, and align energy decisions with broader sustainability and climate objectives. It outlines six key elements of an effective energy strategy: vision and targets, governance, data management, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and implementation solutions.
The publication also offers practical guidance on two critical pillars of the energy transition—energy efficiency and fuel optimization, and decarbonizing energy sourcing through renewable and low-carbon energy solutions—while highlighting relevant Indonesian standards, regulations, and policy developments. By translating global best practices into actionable recommendations for Indonesia, this guideline aims to strengthen business capacity, unlock opportunities for innovation and competitiveness, and support the country’s journey toward net-zero emissions and a resilient low-carbon economy.
