3rd Government-Business Dialogue Tackling Marine Litter by Seizing Circular Opportunities “Handling Marine Debris through Circularity”

The Indonesian government is intensely aware of the problem of plastic waste and is striving to address it through a variety of policies, one of which is the issuance of Presidential Regulation (PERPRES) No. 83 of 2018 on Handling Marine Waste. The government has committed to reducing sources and recycling by 30% by 2025, which is expected to contribute to a 70% reduction in marine plastics and other marine debris by 2025. This commitment has sparked several initiatives and regulatory instruments in Indonesia, including the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulation, which will require Indonesian producers and retailers to be more responsible in managing product waste.
